About City

Dubai is the capital of the Emirate of Dubai and the most populous city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). The city developed quickly in the early twenty-first century from a tiny fishing village to a cosmopolitan metropolis with an emphasis on tourism and hospitality. Dubai is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, with the second highest number of five-star hotels, And the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa.

Dubai, located on the coast of the Persian Gulf in the eastern part of the Arabian Peninsula, aspires to be the business capital of Western Asia. It is also a major global passenger and cargo transportation hub. Oil revenue aided the city's growth, which was already a major mercantile center. Since the early twentieth century, it has acted as a regional and international trade center. Trade, tourism, aviation, real estate, and financial services all contribute to Dubai's economy. In 2018, oil production accounted for less than 1% of the emirate's GDP.

Dubai has a wide range of architectural styles in its buildings and structures. Due to a boom in construction and architectural creativity in the Arab World in general, and in Dubai in particular, many modern interpretations of Islamic architecture can be found here, thanks to top Arab and foreign architectural and engineering design firms such as Al Hashemi and Aedas, but also by top New York and Chicago law firms. As a result of this boom, skyscraper building design and technology have literally reached new heights in modern Islamic – and global – architecture.
